Greece has been facing a lot of economic struggles in recent years. Such struggles can impact businesses in Greece, including those owned by individuals here in the U.S., in many different ways. For one, it could impact what kinds of financial and legal challenges the business could be facing. When economic happenings or other events in Greece create challenging legal matters for a Greek business they own, Greek-Americans may want to promptly seek out advice from an attorney skilled in Greek business law on what legal strategies they can pursue in relation to the challenges.
Economic struggles can also affect consumer behavior. Changes in such behavior can have significant implications for businesses.
It appears that one of the consumer behaviors Greece’s economic troubles may have ended up affecting are eating habits. A recent survey indicates the consumers in Greece have been largely staying away from ordering take out or dining out, and have instead mostly been eating at home.
The survey polled 2,000 Greek consumers about their dietary habits. Among the findings of the survey were that:
- A vast majority of the respondents (82 percent) never or only rarely eat takeout or order out.
- A good chunk of the respondents (37 percent) never or only rarely dine out.
- Home-cooked meals make up over three-quarters of all the respondents’ meals.
Reductions in household disposable income (one of the things economic struggles can lead to) are being pointed to as one of the contributors to the trend of many Greek consumers turning away from take out or dining out in favor of home-cooked food.
One wonders what impacts this consumer trend is having on food-related businesses in Greece.
